On March 20, OCAD U LiVE, OCAD University’s experiential learning program for content creators, is hosting its inaugural public screening of films produced through the Short Film Grant.

Launched in September 2023, the Short Film Grant supports the creation of original content by providing OCAD U students with funding to create and promote short films, documentaries, music videos, animation or augmented/virtual reality content. Three recipients are chosen each year. The grant is an example of how OCAD U contributes to the Canadian creative economy by nurturing the creative talent of students and alums.

LiVE is OCAD U’s experiential learning program for video content creation, featuring a content creator studio where students are paid to learn how to create their own shows, and a production house where experienced students create videos for real-world clients.

The screening will take place from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. in the auditorium at 100 McCaul St. (MCA 190) on OCAD U’s campus. Guests will enjoy six short films produced by grant recipients.

The event will also feature a special screening of Rock Is Dead, a TV pilot written by OCAD U LiVE alum and Creating Writing graduate Avi Sol. Rock Is Dead follows an ambitious group of young musicians who strive to be the next big sound in the rock music industry.

The free screenings will be followed by a live Q&A session with the filmmakers. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
