OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION:

Bau-Xi Gallery and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce an exhibition opportunity for artists in Drawing & Painting,Sculpture & Installation, Photography, and IAMD Master’s students in their graduating term. Five (5) to seven (7) selected emerging artists will each receive $200 to exhibit work in the Emerging exhibition at Bau-Xi Gallery throughout July 2026. Artwork will be made available for purchase (subject to artist approval). This is an amazing opportunity to gain exposure to the commercial art market!

Established in 1965, Bau-Xi Gallery represents both Canadian and International artists, exhibiting Modern and Contemporary painting, photography, and sculpture in three art galleries in Toronto and Vancouver. Having recently celebrated 60years, Bau-Xi Gallery has been recognized as one of Canada’s most highly regarded art galleries, and remains committed to excellence in the promotion and presentation of exceptional contemporary fine art.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TIMELINE:

Selected artists will be responsible for the following:

• Artwork drop-off at Bau-Xi Gallery in the last week of June 2026
• Artwork should be properly wrapped for safe handling& transit.
• Artwork should be CLEARLY labeled with the following:Artist Name, Title, Size, Orientation for travel (if applicable) – a simple uparrow will suffice
• Any pre-existing damage to the artwork should be noted in advance of dropping the artwork off. Bau-Xi Gallery will not be responsible for any damage that is noted in advance of dropping off artwork and will conduct a condition report upon receipt of work, bringing any damage to the attention of the artist.
• Artwork should be SIGNED, DATED and TITLED.

Selected artists will be contacted approximately 2 weeks after submission deadline to discuss work selection and pricing, as well as drop off dates.

For any artists unable to transport their artwork, Bau-Xi Gallery can facilitate the service for $75/hr + HST (payable via e-transfer), 1 hr minimum.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Please provide the following information in one PDF document (kindly keep the PDF to a maximum of 6-8 pages. A few of these requirements can be condensed onto one/two pages):

1)    Full contact information (Name, phone, and email)
2)    Website and/or Social Media link
3)    Artist Statement

• Approximately150-250 words
• The statement should describe your overall body of work.
• If you are putting forth an assortment of work, please feel free to describe your process, and intention.

4)    Artist Bio

• DOB/POB (Date of Birth/Place of Birth)
• Any previous education experience/previous degrees.
• Any previous exhibition history.

5)    High Quality Images 6-8 works

• it is important to look at this as an opportunity to curate your work and focus on building a strong selection. Think of it like a resume.
• Required information: Title/Medium/Size/Date
•  Include suggested retail pricing - this will be reviewed and discussed with the artists selected to participate. Please be open to the prices being lowered, or raised quite a bit, depending on our thoughts.
• Indicate if the works are framed or unframed.
• For time-based media, please provide stills and include a URL to the video
• No more than two/three images per page to ensure we are getting a good sense of the work.

ELIGIBILITY:

• Must be a DRPT, PHOT), or SCIN student with 15+ credits graduating in 2026
• or IAMD students graduating in 2026
• Must have the intent of remaining in the region following graduation to make use of this opportunity

**Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received a Career Launcher opportunity

SUCCESSFUL RECIPIENTS WILL EACH RECEIVE

• $200 exhibition fee from CEAD
