Remember the mystery art sale? It’s back and this time, it’s part of OCAD University’s 150th anniversary celebration!

More than a decade ago, the Whodunit? Mystery Art Sale was a hugely popular OCAD U tradition, drawing crowds and even public line-ups outside the doors. Now, we’re bringing it back for a new generation.

On April 3, 2027, the Great Hall will host a sale of 150 original works by OCAD U students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as artists and supporters from the broader community.

Here’s the twist: buyers won’t know who made the artwork until after they buy it. Every piece will be priced at $150. All proceeds will help support OCAD U’s 150th anniversary programming.

BE PART OF THE MYSTERY

We’re asking OCAD U students and faculty to create and donate a small original work for the sale.

The rules are simple:

  • Create an original work on a standard 8 × 10" canvas, supplied by OCAD U.
  • There are no restrictions on what you create - painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, experimental work, a print of a photograph or anything else that fits the format.
  • Works must be able to be displayed upright at the event (2D or close to 2D).
  • You’re welcome to submit more than one work.
  • Submission Deadline: Friday, March 5, 2027

In the days leading up to the event, an online preview will give the public a first look at the works – but not the names of the artists.

Email events@ocadu.ca to participate.

Canvases can be picked up from the Marketing & Communications Office, 10th Floor, 230 Richmond St. W. Submission deadline: Friday, March 5, 2027
