OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce Gizem Candan  as the recipient of the 2024 Ignite Gallery Call for Curators Career Launcher! 

 

Gizem Candan is a curator and visual artist who focuses on the state of anxiety experienced by humans and its effects on society in the Anthropocene—the contemporary era when human activity has significantly impacted the climate and nature. She is a research assistant at Cooper Cole Gallery.

Through this opportunity Gizem will curate an exhibition at Ignite Gallery for the 2024 program cycle from Ignite’s annual call for artists. 

Located inside OCAD University’s Ada Slaight Exhibition Centre, Ignite Gallery is a contemporary gallery exhibiting current and recent emerging talent from Canada’s leading Art and Design University.  

Ignite Gallery is on the homelands of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabeg, and the Wendat. Ignite Gallery sets our intentions to live within the laws of these host nations and to building meaningful relationships with the lands and waters.

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is launching a mentorship program for creative entrepreneurs. Running from June to December 2025, this initiative is designed to empower early-stage creative businesses across a spectrum of disciplines—including visual art, cultural production, design fields, media production, social enterprise, technology-enabled services and more. Through mentorship, the program aims to bridge the gap between ideas and successful business ventures.
