Film Screenings from a study led by Jami Mcfarland:

2SLGBTQ+ aging with and into difference(s)

Storytellers' names and titles:

  • Patricia Derouin’s “Not Dead Yet” (8 mins)
  • Michael Dion’s “Why Didn’t Anyone Tell Me About Aging” (6 mins, 39 secs)
  • Rev. Marcie Wexler’s “Solitaire Road” (6 mins, 20 secs)
  • Bernie Thompson’s “New Beginnings” (9 mins, 42 secs)
  • Rita OLink’s “I’m Not Going to Run, I’m Not Going to Hide” (8 mins, 9 secs)
  • Don Turner’s “A Long Journey Into Aging” (7 mins, 23 secs)
  • David Drinkwalter’s “My Life in the Lost and Found Department” (6 mins, 36 secs)
  • Dar Hansen’s “Dar’s Story” (6 mins, 48 secs)
  • Jo Brook’s “A Fae-ry Tale” (8 mins, 55 secs)

These stories came from a SSHRC-funded study, "(Eng)Aging Crip Rainbow Representations: 2SLGBTQ+ Disabled Older Adults Access the Arts and Create Belonging through Digital Storytelling," which sought to create diverse representations at the nexus of 2SLGBTQ+ aging, disability, and illness. Some storytellers chose to explore disability and illness directly in their stories, while others focused on other parts of their identities in their stories.

Jami Mcfarland is the PI of this study, but there are several other academics contributing to it: Carla Rice, Nadine Changfoot, Celeste Pang, and Nicole Dalmer), and an excellent RA (Andrea Keber.  Funded by SSHRC, the study was created in collaboration with Re-Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice at the University of Guelph.
