Size Matters is a curated group exhibition that questions how scale influences presence, power, and impact, asking what it truly means for something to “matter.”
It draws on cultural ideas about size and significance, pairing a playful spirit with critical insight to invite viewers to consider how two-dimensional works take up space—physically, emotionally, and conceptually.
Large-scale painting has long been associated with notions of authority, influence, and dominance, often linked to masculinity and social hierarchy. Size Matters approaches these conventions with intention and freshness, featuring artists who use scale as both a physical dimension and a conceptual framework to challenge how it shapes perception, identity, and cultural expectation.
Open to OCAD University students and alumni, this exhibition explores how scale shapes meaning, embodiment, and the viewer’s experience in contemporary practice. By considering how works occupy space—through gesture, intention, and resonance—Size Matters challenges traditional hierarchies and invites reflection on the relationship between size, composition, and artistic impact.
