SJ Okemow
Faculty of Art
SJ Okemow is a Nehiyaw and Eastern European interdisciplinary artist. She belongs to Bigstone Cree Nation (Treaty 8), grew up in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Treaty 7), and currently resides in Tkaronto (Treaty 13). She is an Assistant Professor in the Experimental Animation program at OCADU. She has balanced working in industry as a board-certified medical illustrator along with additional teaching and outreach across remote Northern communities through organizations such as Pinnguaq and Connected North. Her work has exhibited at venues such as Hamilton’s Factory Media Centre and completed large-scale mural projects in Tkaronto and Mohkinstsis.
