Gorana Tolja-Denomme

(Faculty of Arts & Science Instructor and Sci-Fi Book Club Leader)

I hold a BID in Interior Design (2010) from Toronto Metropolitan University, an MA in Contemporary Art, Design and New Media Art Histories (2014) from OCAD University and am currently a PhD Candidate (ABD) in Humanities at York University. I have taught at a post-secondary level since 2014. My research and teaching are situated at the intersection of the histories of graphic novel and comic literature, illustration, science fiction and histories of architecture and the built environment, focusing on the potential of comics and graphic novels as sites to delve into issues of built space. My doctoral dissertation, titled, “Utopia or Oblivion: Technology, Spatial Politics and the Sci-Fi Worlds of Bande Dessinée”, focuses specifically on 1960s and ‘70s French Science Fiction bande dessinée as a form of spatio-political, urban critique. An SF enthusiast, I love discovering new (and old) works that this ever-evolving genre has to offer, and I’m looking forward to connecting with our OCAD U community!
