2026 Tax Workshop for Artists & Designers

Location: CEAD, 115 McCaul St., 3rd Floor
Join Kelly Ross for an informative workshop designed specifically for OCAD U students and alums. Learn how to successfully navigate your taxes as an artist or designer. The session will cover the differences between employee and self-employed income, which business expenses can be deducted, and much more. Attendees are encouraged to submit their questions about the 2026 tax year in advance.
This workshop will cover:
- Updates for the 2026 tax year
- Important deadlines
- Taxes for international students
- Employee versus self-employed income
- HST
- Deductible business expenses and effective record-keeping
- RRSPs vs. TFSAs
- CRA Audits/Reviews
- Any other tax-related questions you bring!
About the speaker:
Kelly Ross is the Managing Director and CEO of Ross Professional Corporation. She is a member of CPA Canada leading with strength, knowledge and passion, having over 20 years of experience in accounting and taxation. Through her career she worked in a multi-national CPA firm, then moved on to be a subject matter expert for development of an accounting program at a college. Kelly’s interest and passion for accounting came from her mother whose career was in the accounting realm. Kelly has a love for the arts and entertainment industry, which stemmed from having a father who had talent and love for music. Kelly herself played the piano, trumpet and was a dancer through her early years. Now in her downtime, Kelly can be found around the hockey rinks supporting her daughter’s hockey team and following her nephews in their live band performances. She is truly a people person and has a special skill making everyone she meets feel special.

- This event is open to OCAD U students and alumni
- We will have a notetaker present and will share notes after the event
- There will be stim toys available for participants
- Some snacks and refreshments will be provided as part of the event
- OCAD U does not require masks on campus. As the decision to wear a mask is now a matter of individual choice, we ask that all members of the community respect those who continue to wear masks for health and safety reasons. Masks will continue to be supplied in the CEAD.
