ROSALIE SHARP

Rosalie Sharp is a distinguished Ontario College of Art (OCA) alum, artist, arts advocate and philanthropist whose lifelong commitment to creativity, education and cultural enrichment has helped shape the University and the broader arts community in Toronto and across Canada.

A graduate of OCA in 1969, Sharp received the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for her outstanding achievements. In 2004, she returned to her alma mater as OCAD U’s first chancellor, providing leadership and guidance during a pivotal period of transformation and growth. Through her vision, advocacy and deep connection to the University community, she helped strengthen OCAD U’s role as a leading institution for art, design and innovation.

Sharp's impact extends well beyond her tenure as chancellor. Together with her husband, Isadore Sharp, founder and chairman of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, she has been one of the University’s most dedicated supporters. Their philanthropy has helped shape OCAD U’s physical and creative landscape, including support for the construction of the Rosalie Sharp Centre for Design, the iconic main campus building designed by architect Will Alsop, and the Rosalie Sharp Pavilion, a vibrant hub for experiential learning and community engagement.

An accomplished artist and passionate advocate for the arts, Sharp has dedicated her life to fostering creativity and expanding opportunities for artists and designers. Her commitment to mentorship, philanthropy and cultural engagement has inspired generations of OCAD U students, alumni and faculty.

Recognized as a visionary champion for the arts, Sharp’s legacy reflects a lifelong belief in the transformative power of art and design to shape communities, spark innovation and create meaningful change.
