Nora Lem
When I applied at OCAD U, I didn't really think I had a chance at all. No high school diploma and a dream to attend OCAD U seemed impossible without one, but thank god for our superb school counsellors, who directed me to enroll as a mature student. What started out as 3 interesting courses, turned into a 4 year diploma program. Then tragedy happened, my mom passed away, and I took a very long hiatus. I needed to finish my classes, and I thought all was lost, then one of the student counsellors at the time 'Lee' called me, and verbally kicked my butt, telling me if I did not finish within the next year, all of my class credits would be forfeited, and I would have to start all over again! So, due to her, I returned, and finished my program, and graduated in 2013. I could not have done this without the help of our student advisors, the teachers and everyone else who were in my corner! Since graduating, I have been independent from galleries, and have my own online sites, selling my work on eBay and POD sites. I may not be a renowned famous artist around the world, but I have certainly sold to people around the world. Don't be shy, while you are at OCAD U, it is the one time, where, as an artist you are truly, not alone! Once you leave, it can get lonely working on your own, but there is always one place you will belong no matter what ... I am so very proud to be a part of OCAD U's alumni.
