UPDATED AT 11:35 a.m., MAY 8, 2026:

OCAD University continues to monitor a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the vendor that operates Canvas. This is a learning management system used to manage coursework, assignments, grades and communication between enrolled students and faculty members.

Based on feedback from Instructure, OCAD U has now restored access to Canvas and there is no impact to current operations. Instructure has provided information regarding this incident, Security Incident Update & FAQs | Instructure.

GradEx 111 is unaffected by this incident and is going ahead as planned. Classes for the Winter term have ended; there has been no impact on classes.

The University will continue to provide updates on the OCAD U website, as information becomes available.

What to watch for

As a precaution, students, faculty and staff are asked to be on alert for phishing messages that claim to come from Canvas, Instructure or OCAD U, especially messages asking them to click a link, re-enter their password or provide personal information.

A reminder: OCAD University will never ask for a person's password by email, text, or phone.

If people receive a suspicious message, they should report it to itsecurity@ocadu.ca via email.
