As OCAD University prepares to replace the mechanical rooftop units at 100 McCaul St., several activities are taking place that will result in closures and/or limited access to 100 McCaul St. and Butterfield Park.

This includes the installation of a crane on Grange Road on Oct. 11, requiring the closure of the fifth and sixth floors at 100 McCaul St. and the closure of Butterfield Park from Oct. 11 to 15. The 100 McCaul St. building will close at 4 p.m. on Oct. 15.

This work is part of the University’s multi-year decarbonization initiative to upgrade end-of-life mechanical equipment with higher efficiency units. This involves removing six rooftop mechanical units and reinstalling five new units as well as upgrading the electrical supply. We anticipate this work will be completed by Oct. 19.

OCT. 6 TO 10: ELECTRICAL UPDATES
Electrical updates are taking place on the sixth floor of the Rosalie Sharp Centre for Design, 100 McCaul St., from Oct. 6 to 10 in several rooms, on the north part of the building.

The specific areas affected include:

  • MCA 601, the open area outside the express elevators
  • MCA 620, 620A, 622, 623, 625, 625A, 631, 632, 633, 634
  • MCA 667 2D Design Riso Studio
  • MCA 669 Studio Seminar room
  • Washrooms MCA 630, 674 and 673

These rooms will be accessed by McLellan Electrical to conduct these updates. This firm is regularly on campus and does this kind of work in a respectful manner with minimal disruption.

OCT. 11: CLOSURE OF FIFTH AND SIXTH FLOORS, 100 McCAUL ST.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, a crane is being set up on Grange Road, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., to facilitate the removal and replacement of the rooftop mechanical units.

During this time, there will be no access to the fifth and sixth floors at 100 McCaul St. This means no access to offices, open workspaces, classrooms, studios, hallways, etc. on these two floors.

Should the weather impact the ability to proceed with the crane’s activities, this work will be rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14. As a result, there will be no access to the fifth and sixth floors at 100 McCaul St. on this day.

OCT. 11 TO 15: BUTTERFIELD PARK CLOSED
As a precaution to ensure public safety during the crane’s activities, Butterfield Park is closed from Saturday, Oct. 11 to Wednesday, Oct. 15

OCT. 15: COMPLETE CLOSURE OF 100 McCAUL ST.
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the 100 McCaul St. building is closing at 4 p.m. because of a required power shutdown of the fifth and sixth floors to allow for the new mechanical equipment to be connected.

The building reopens on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 a.m., as per usual hours of operations.

We thank you for your understanding, cooperation and patience while this important work takes place.
