Congratulations to our Career Launchers recipient Alex Hall for receiving the "Best of Student Award" in the 2025 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair! Through this well-deserved award she has received a cash prize of $1,000 supported by the Marie Collins Memorial Award & ArtHubs Toronto Inc. Opportunity Award which includes a residency at Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts and a solo exhibition at Youngplace. Alex Hall is a lens-based Chinese Canadian artist working in Toronto, Canada. She specializes in photography and alternative processes. She holds a BFA in photography from the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU) and is a former dancer with the National Ballet of Canada.

Through the parallel stories of two Chinatowns, her series Disconnected Connections is an exploration of immigration, displacement, and the ties of her family history with her mixed heritage. The small mining town of Barkerville, British Columbia is home to the second oldest Chinatown in Canada. In the 1840’s the people there immigrated from the Guangdong Province. In the 20th century, her grandparents immigrated from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province to Toronto. 

Since 1961, TOAF has been instrumental in launching artists’ careers and bringing art into people’s everyday lives. TOAF is passionate about supporting artists and exceptional talents through awards, special programs and opportunities.

Partial x OCAD University Artist Showcase Summer 2026 Call for Artists

Partial and OCAD U’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce the return of our partnership which provides an exceptional career opportunity for OCAD U student artists and recent alumni. Selected artists will be given complimentary 2 year Pro Accounts ($240 value) on Partial and permanent inclusion as featured artists within the OCAD University Artist Showcase on Partial to display their works, and administrate artwork sales and rentals.

OCAD U x SickKids Research Institute Exhibition - Call for Artists

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD) and The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute (SickKids RI) have partnered to co-create an exhibition in the Great Hall at OCAD University on November 16-27, 2026. The CEAD and SickKids RI are inviting emerging artists to submit existing works for consideration. The responding artworks to be curated will be in dialogue with captivating scientific images or videos from SickKids Research Institute. 7-9 successful artists will each be paid a $500 Artist Fee.
