Dr. Sara Diamond, President and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University, received Toronto Digifest’s Digital Media Pioneer Award at a ceremony yesterday at Artscape Launchpad. Dr. Diamond is a new media pioneer, curator, researcher, lecturer and artistic director who has become synonymous with Canadian art, culture and media.

Digifest is a design and technology festival and a startup event that takes place annually for three days. The event is organized by the Digital Media and Gaming Incubator at George Brown College gathering students, creatives, leaders, and entrepreneurs that share their views regarding the future of design and technology.

The award acknowledges remarkable Canadians that have been contributing meaningfully with the field of digital media. Since 2011 it has been given to recipients such as artist Norman White, research and inventor Dr. Steve Mann and president of the Society for Arts and Technology Luc Courchesne.

Dr. Sara Diamond joined OCAD U as President in 2005 and has led the organization to become a leader in digital media, design research and curriculum through the Digital Futures Initiative, new research in inclusive design, health and design, and sustainable technologies and design.
