OCAD University’s Faculty of Art is pleased to welcome Bangalore-based artist Indu Antony as the inaugural artist-in-residence for its 2019 IArts Residency Program, taking place September 9 to October 19.

Photo-based, multi-disciplinary artist, Indu Antony’s work explores the intangible character of spaces in relation to the gendered body as a site of representation. Through performance and installation, Antony deploys the body as a tool to express her feminist stance. “Indu Antony's works explore the performative aspects of lens-based practice as a means of engaging and speaking back to popular culture,” said Dr. Glen Lowry, Associate Dean, Outreach and Innovation at OCAD U. Antony continues to build an international reputation for her work, winning the Toto Funds Award for photography in 2011. Her group exhibitions include: Photo Kathmandu, Nepal, 2015; Queer Asia Photo Exhibition, London, 2017; the Serendipity Arts Festival, 2018; Foto Fest Biennale, Houston, 2018; and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (Collateral), 2018-19. OCAD U is excited to support Antony’s creative practice while introducing her work to Canadian audiences.

The IArts Residency Program was launched with the generous support of the IArts Project Fund. Inspired by the late Arti Chandaria, IArts envisions unique opportunities for cultural exchange that bring the richness of Indian visual and material arts to Canada. IArts provides artists and designers from India scope to explore innovative approaches to their creative practice and to build international networks. Through exposure to the Resident’s thought and practice, OCAD U students will be able to explore contemporary art and design processes in collaborative learning experiences that deepen their global perspectives.
