Yes. If you’re looking for an education that takes your creativity seriously, OCAD U is a great place to start.
OCAD U is Canada’s top art and design university, and it’s been helping students turn their ideas into possibilities since 1876. With more than 4,500 students and a faculty of 400 practicing artists, designers and creative professionals, you’ll learn from people who are actively shaping the creative world.
But a great art and design education is about more than making things. At OCAD U, you’ll learn to think critically, solve problems, work with new technologies and develop your own point of view. You’ll gain practical skills and experience that can help you build a career in a world that’s constantly changing.
You’ll also be part of a creative community in the heart of downtown Toronto, surrounded by people who are making, questioning and imagining what’s next.

Most programs require a portfolio submission as part of your application. The portfolio is one of the most important tools for an artist or designer. .
Most programs ask for 8–10 finished pieces, your sketchbook or process work, and a statement of intent under 300 words. Show a mix of traditional and digital work, include pieces related to your program, and write 50 words on each. You'll upload everything through SlideRoom after you apply. All applications for admission are made online through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). The only entry point is in September each year. An OCAD U degree can take you in all kinds of directions. Our graduates work as designers, illustrators, animators, art directors, photographers, curators, writers, entrepreneurs and more. They build careers in advertising, technology, film and television, publishing, fashion, architecture, gaming, culture and the public sector.
And you don’t have to know exactly what you want to do when you start. At OCAD U, you’ll build creative, technical and critical-thinking skills that can open up different career paths and help you adapt as industries and technologies change. You’ll also build a portfolio and gain practical experience that can help you stand out when you’re ready to launch your career.
Career development starts in your first year through the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, where you can find opportunities to build your network, gain professional experience and prepare for life after graduation. In fact, 94% of OCAD U graduates are employed.

You’ll have plenty of options when it comes to finding a place to live.
OCAD U doesn’t have its own student residence, but that means you can choose the living arrangement that works best for you. Students live in purpose-built student housing near campus, co-op housing, homestays and shared rentals throughout Toronto.
And you don’t have to live right downtown to be close to campus. OCAD U is conveniently located on two subway lines, making it easy to commute from neighbourhoods across Toronto and the GTA. Living a little farther from campus can also give you more options when it comes to finding the right place and budget.
Wherever you live, you’ll be part of one of Canada’s most vibrant and diverse cities, with campus right in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Living in Downtown Toronto
At OCAD University, you're living in the heart of Toronto—steps from galleries, cafés, and iconic neighbourhoods, with subway and streetcar lines just minutes from campus. While OCAD U doesn't have its own residence, you'll find plenty of ways to feel at home: purpose-built student buildings, community-focused co-op housing, welcoming homestays with local families, or your own place to rent solo or share with roommates.
