Drawing and Painting grad Charlotte Healey Awarded Inaugural Slate Asset Management Career Launcher

Congratulations to Drawing and Painting 21’ grad Charlotte Healey on receiving the inaugural Slate Asset Management Career Launcher. Earlier in 2021, Slate invited artists to submit medium to large scale pieces to be displayed in their 2 St. Clair West location. In Charlotte’s work, figures gather in surreal arrangements to create energetic scenes dotted with absurdity and melodrama. Charlotte reflects on the intimacy and isolation of the crowd and its affiliations to social contract, nostalgia, loss, and uncertainty—poignant themes as the globe adjusts to new social interactions in 2021.

Charlotte Healey (Canadian b. 1989) is an emerging contemporary painter and printmaker living in Toronto. Although her artistic focus is always in flux, an undercurrent of emotional urgency, representational ambiguity, and tongue-in-cheek run through her practice. For the time being, she continues to attempt works that teeter between humorous and tragic. Accepted into the MFA program at the New York Studio School, Charlotte will begin the next chapter in her creative career starting this September.

Charlotte’s work will remain on display at 2 St. Clair West until the end of December 2021.
