The Studio Services Team presents:

COFFEE WITH JOHN DEAL (Drawing & Painting Studio) & ERIC STEENBERGEN (Printmaking & Publications Studio)!

Looking to connect with studio technicians to discuss projects or ask questions?  Studio Services is hosting a series of casual drop-in sessions throughout the term!

John Deal is the technician for the Drawing and Painting program. He has a broad knowledge of art practices and art history with a focus on contemporary drawing and painting practices. John’s practice is infused with digital techniques, pioneering the use of rapid prototyping technologies as mark-making tools, while rooted in drawing and painting, and photography.  John began drawing and making at a young age and took up watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, model making and photography in his teens. He has worked in many mediums over his career including animation and 3D modelling, metal casting, hybrid mediums and rapid prototyping, music and sound, design/build fabrication, etc. John is personally invested in learning more about how to use emerging technologies to extend and problematize existing and traditional mediums for the sake of exploring new modes of seeing and presenting.

Eric Steenbergen is the Printmaking and Publications Technician, he has been a technician at OCAD since 2010. Eric primarily uses photo-etching in his own practice. In addition to Printmaking & Bookarts, Eric has a background in photography, particularly historical processes.  Eric is a graduate of York universities visual arts program; he completed his Masters in Printmaking at the university of Alberta in 2010.  He repairs and maintains presses and other equipment for community organizations and artist run centres as well as the TDSB.  Eric can help you with Printmaking, binding, & health and safety questions!
