Standing Still (Walking Composition): Shay Salehi

“Standing Still” will ask viewers to question repetition—both as individuals and as a community. Being creatures of habit, humans can often find themselves in unproductive patterns. And these patterns can lead to labour without progress. This installation will follow a narrative of day-to-day repetition. But this story will be set within a distorted version of the familiar. Torontonians’ lives are embedded with access to endless information—now, we are faced with the choice of how to move forward.

Shay Salehi is an artist based in Toronto. Her current work focuses on destructive patterns and everyday objects. Salehi explores bonds between internal and external patterns, as well as links between personal and societal cycles. Shay is a 4th year Sculpture/Installation student at OCAD University.

Shay Salehi would like to thank Adam Giroux for help with technical support, and Mosaic Yoga Toronto for allowing the use of their space.
