  • Room 415, 100 McCaul St
  • All welcome

Terry Costantino has spent her career creating and guiding collaborative approaches that help groups envision and develop new products, services, and processes.

She founded and was co-owner of Usability Matters, a human-centred design studio with a staff of 15 designers and researchers. We provided strategy, research, design and digital accessibility services to Canada’s biggest brands including CBC, Rogers, the University of Toronto, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, National Gallery of Canada, and hundreds more.

She received her PhD for research conducted with staff members at the Toronto Public Library and Usability Matters. We explored concepts of participation and the tensions between human-centred design, which focuses on creating effective designs, and participatory design, which focuses on personal transformation and the democratic value of participation.

Prior to her digital design career, she studied photography and film at Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) and was Director of Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography.

Currently, Terry leads the service and experience design practice at the City of Toronto and previously worked with the Ontario government leading digital experience design efforts on products used by citizens and employees.
