The Contemporary Textile Studio Co-operative was started in 2006 by a group of textile artists wanting an affordable and properly equipped studio space, and a home for the promotion of textile arts and design in Toronto. The cooperative is located in a well-known cultural hub that is home to many galleries and artist-run centres. Their working studio is a prime 1200 square foot space on the first floor of the historic 401 Richmond Street West building where members and residents produce work, teach, learn, interact, and innovate with other designers, artists, students, and the community.

Contemporary Textile Studio Co-operative relies on members’ and residents’ diverse backgrounds and perspectives to spark innovation and creativity. The RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the return of the Contemporary Textile Studio Artist Residency Career Launcher for students or recent grads (2023, 2024). Two (2) successful applicants will be awarded a 9 week self-directed residency with Contemporary Textile Studio Cooperative ($550 value) which grants them access to the co-op’s studio, facilities and equipment.
