CALL FOR APPLICANTS - STUDENT COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS
Are you a friendly and engaged student who wants to help build up the OCAD U community?
In the lead up to fall 2020, amidst the context of remote delivery of curriculum, OCAD University will be implementing a virtual learning community for new and returning students. In order to reduce isolation, foster interpersonal connection, help build confidence and deepen discipline-specific competencies, all newly admitted students will be assigned a senior peer group leader - a Student Community Ambassador - who will, from September onwards, help steward their co-curricular experience using dedicated virtual platforms.
Duration:Fall 2020 (August to December)
Position Type: Part-time, 10-15 hours/week
Schedule: Remote and flexible with your course schedule
Rate: $15.86/ hour (OPSEU Unit 2)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Returning student, with a minimum of 10.0+ undergraduate credits earned by August 2020;
- An interest in developing leadership and facilitation skills;
- Familiarity with your program of study (e.g. faculty, courses, opportunities, etc.);
- Strong communication skills;
- Able to develop and distribute knowledge about the full range of OCAD U services;
- Maintains confidentiality;
- Enthusiastic about supporting your peers;
- Demonstrated time-management, problem solving and other general workplace skills;
- Strong collaborative skills;
- Willing to acquire new technology skills related to virtual communications, e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, etc;
- Has a stable internet connection capable of the virtual aspects of this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in a training session relative to this role, as well as anti-oppression training;
- Participate in the ongoing development of OCAD U's new virtual learning community and related efforts;
- In consultation with various stakeholders, develop a detailed programming schedule for the fall 2020 semester;
- Lead weekly group check-ins (video and chat) where programming will be delivered virtually;
- Conduct one-on-one virtual peer advising;
- Actively fosters a respectful and welcoming learning environment;
- Collaborate with other SCAs in order to develop new and innovative approaches to the delivery of related services;
- Compile student questions/issues from your group to be developed into a shared FAQ document;
- Promote participation in other OCAD U initiatives that students can become involved in;
- Track attendance and conduct outreach efforts with individuals whose engagement is low;
- Help direct students to other OCAD U support services;
- Complete reports to track activities and outcomes;
- Participate in the Work/Place experiential learning course offered by the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers.
