On January 25th, Women's Entrepreneurial Knowledge Hub Indigenous will be joined by OCAD U - Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, and the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO) to present Coffee Breaks with Creatives.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Indigenous Screen Office, their services and resources available to Indigenous creatives and entrepreneurs, as well as insights into what careers await you in the Indigenous film and television industry!

2022 Open Studio,
Archive and Collections Assistant

Deadline: Monday, January 31, 2022, at 11:59pm (midnight)

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce a recruited placement in partnership with Open Studio for the role of Archive and Collections Assistant. The Archive and Collections Assistant will join the Open Studio team at an exciting time as they move forward with a project to create a formalized collection from an archive of donated prints created at Open Studio in its past and current locations over 50 years. This position will assist with improving access to Open Studio’s print collection by organizing and cataloging artworks, and with digitizing artworks and archive materials to be shared via a dedicated social media channel.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • A brief statement/bio that contextualizes your overall practice (150 words max) 
  • A cover letter outlining your interest in this specific opportunity (500 words max)

RATE: $25 hour, for 25 hours per week 
TERM: Part-time contract, beginning in late February to June 2022*

*Under current pandemic restrictions, Open Studio is currently closed to the public until January 27. The anticipated start date for this position is the end of February 2022 and it is an in-person working role. In the event that the Gallery must remain closed for public health, the start date for the position may be delayed until the end of March 2022 and continue till July 2022. The Gallery will work closely with the selected candidate to determine a start date.

​Chung Leung designs integrated brand experiences that are immersive, meaningful, and unforgettable. She has worked on branding, environmental graphics, and wayfinding & signage designs for major worldwide mixed-use entertainment spaces. She has worked with diverse clients ranging from 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers to CAMH and Hilton Hotels. She received her Bachelor of Design (BDes) from OCAD University and has a deep passion for storytelling with over a decade of Toastmasters experience. Currently, she is a senior graphic designer at FORREC and prior to that, she worked at Forge Media + Design.

Call for Submissions - 2021-2022 Partial Gallery OCADU Artist Showcase
Partial Gallery and OCAD U's RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce the return of our partnership which provides an exceptional career opportunity for OCAD U student artists and recent alumni (2020 + 2021). 40 selected artists will be given complimentary 1-year Pro Accounts on Partial and inclusion as featured artists within the  OCAD University Artist Showcase on Partial’s online platform in order to showcase their works, and administrate artwork sales and rentals.

As of year three, the OCAD U Artist Showcase has had: 

  • 3.72 M total impressions since launching in Feb 2020
  • 204 interactions (booking requests and interest sessions)
  • 65% of artists received at least 1 sale/rental inquiry
  • A total of 148 sale booking requests (97 successful)
  • A total of 56 rental booking requests (36 successful)
  • A total of 42 artists received sale / rental requests

ELIGIBILITY

Partial is a platform for independent and emerging fine artists. 

  • OCAD U Alumni from any program of study who have graduated in 2020 or 2021 
  • OCAD U undergraduate students who have earned 15.0 or more credits 
  • OCAD U Graduate students who will be completing their program in the current academic year 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Coffee Chats is a series of virtual casual gatherings with the CEAD team with industry guests. Eve Tagny is a Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based artist. Her practice considers gardens and disrupted landscapes as mutable sites of personal and collective memory — inscribed in dynamics of power, colonial histories and their legacies. Weaving lens-based mediums, installation, text and performance, she explores spiritual and embodied expressions of grief and resiliency, in correlation with nature’s rhythms, cycles and materiality.

Tagny has a BFA in Film Production from Concordia University and a Certificate in Journalism from University of Montreal. Recent exhibitions include Momenta Biennale, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and Centre Clark, Montreal; Cooper Cole, Gallery 44, and Franz Kaka, Toronto. She is the recipient of the Mfon grant (2018), the Plein Sud Bursary (2020) and has been shortlisted for the CAP Prize (2018), the Burtynsky Photobook Grant (2018) and the OAAG Award (2020).

Coffee Chats is a series of virtual casual gatherings with the CEAD team with industry guests. Hosted virtually in small intimate groups, these gatherings will provide a space for group conversations with practitioners who are interested in supporting OCAD U students and grads to offer mentorship, and share their professional insights and journey, while collectively creating an online community. 

Tura holds an undergraduate degree in architecture from Ryerson University and a Master’s degree in architecture from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has been practicing architecture in Toronto 10 years and is a licensed architect in both Ontario and the Netherlands. Tura’s professional experience spans a variety of scales including multi-unit residential, large-scale mixed-use developments, libraries, community spaces, and urban design. Tura is equally passionate about the impact of small-scale architecture and exploring the craft and intimacy of private residential design. Outside SOCA, Tura has undertaken community based projects and been invited to speak at lectures and panel discussions regarding Toronto’s housing affordability. Tura is also a board of directors at East End Arts.
