CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Navigating Identity in the Asian Diaspora

AZN Artists Collective (AAC) is thrilled to have the opportunity to host our very first exhibition at OCAD U in the Ada Slaight Gallery space. AAC would love for you to join us in the making of our exhibition, and we invite current members of the collective and non-members to apply (with consideration of the qualifications). We ask that participants submit one piece of work or a series that relates to our theme: navigating identity in the Asian diaspora. We would love to know your perspective,  experiences, and your past or present views on what it like to navigate identity as a person belonging to the Asian Diaspora. Existing pieces or proposals for new works are acceptable submissions. Please indicate on your application if your work has specific installation requirements or if you need special accommodations. The artworks will be selected by a jury, and the successful applicants will be contacted.

Note: the AAC is in full compliance with OCAD University’s COVID-19 protocols, gallery capacity is TBD.

Please join us for the virtual book launch event for Curating Lively Objects: Exhibitions Beyond Disciplines, on October 28th, 5pm to 7pm EDT, hosted by OCAD University’s Faculty of Arts and Science and School of Graduate Studies, in partnership with Onsite Gallery.
 
Co-edited by Caroline Seck Langill and Lizzie Muller, Curating Lively Objects explores the role of things as catalysts in imagining futures beyond disciplines for museums and exhibitions. Contributing writers describe how their curatorial collaborations with diverse objects, from rocks to robots, generate new ways of organizing and sharing knowledge.
 
Bringing together leading artists and curators from Australia and Canada, Curating Lively Objects addresses object liveliness from a range of entwined perspectives, including new materialism, decolonial thinking, Indigenous epistemologies, environmentalism, feminist critique and digital aesthetics. Foregrounding practice-based curatorial scholarship, the book focuses on rigorous reflexive accounts of how curating is done. It contributes to global topics in curatorial research, including time and memory beyond and before disciplinarity; the relationship between human and non-human across different ontologies; and the interaction between Indigenous knowledge and disciplinary expertise in interpreting museum collections.
 
Caroline Langill and Lizzie Muller will be joined in conversation by Ryan Rice, Lisa Myers, Randy Lee Cutler, Tess Allas, Lucas Ihlein, and Sarah Cook.

At Session 1, learn about strategies and techniques to up your academic gains

We will be joined by D.J. Cunningham, the CEO of LEARNstyle, to share his learning journey and how he gained confidence and experienced success using assistive technology. This session will provide you with an introduction to the role assistive technology can play in your learning journey and set you up to attend our future sessions on assistive technology as it relates to specific academic tasks, such as organization and time management and idea generation.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is excited to invite you to the kickoff of a series of workshops we will be presenting over the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 terms presented in partnership with LEARNstyle (https://learnstyle.com). The goal of these sessions is to introduce you to assistive technology and how it can support you in meeting your academic goals.

The SWC Peer Wellness Program works to de-stigmatize conversations on mental health in our community through Brave Spaces and Anti-Oppressive Programming. We will be discussing physical fitness, creating SMART Goals, strategies to increase motivation, and getting back in touch with your values.
