O-DAYS! 2017

A number of department- and group-specific #ODAYS17 activities are planned the week of August 28, 2017, culminating in the Campus Life and OCAD University Student Union (OCADSU) collaborative BIG-Day! on Tuesday, September 5, when nearly 1,000 new and first-year #OCADU2021 undergrads will descend upon campus to kick off the 2017/2018 academic year!

This free workshop that offers hands-on exercises that will give you the opportunity to build essential tools for success in both your liberal studies and studio courses. We will look at critical reading, taking lecture notes and introduction to critique.

A re-organization of your time, energy and resources is an important part of the transition to OCAD U. In this free workshop, we will discuss strategies and tips on how to organize your time, set realistic goals and gain insight into your personal work style. We will engage in hands-on activities that will assist you in setting priorities, developing a schedule and managing your stress for the years ahead. Participants should bring their course schedules and any day-timers or calendars they currently use.

COMPASS: A FIRST GENERATION STUDENT ORIENTATION
DAY 1 of 2

COMPASS is a two-day orientation geared towards First Generation students, that is, students whose parents did not attend university, or did not attend university in Canada. 

Meet other students, faculty, and upper year students and get a head start at OCAD University. In the orientation you will discuss time management strategies, learn more about your program requirements, participate in a mock critique, and have time to ask questions about your upcoming year at OCAD U. Lunch and snacks will be provided. 

Registration is restricted to 40 students, and you must be able to attend both days. Please email Savindi Jinasena for more details.

Elisha Lim is a published graphic novelist and claymation filmmaker, and graduated earlier this year from the OCAD Masters in curating. Elisha won the 2017 medal for best Curatorial thesis, and on top of that, the annual University-wide award in which students vote for the best Teaching Assistant of the year.

BREATH OF HENNA:
Toronto-based artist and OCAD U alumna Sarah Hussain will be attending the O-DAYS! Annual Community Fair (September 5), adorning students and staff with Henna Art! Visit Sarah (first-come, first served) for a complimentary 10-minute session in natural, lavender-infused Henna!

Having completed her degree in Fine Arts, with a minor in Material Art & Design, Sarah is celebrating her 10th year as principal for Breath of Henna, implementing her roots while using Henna in a global setting and travelling for destination weddings and corporate events. Sarah also continues her thesis in Henna as she is the first artist in North America to use Henna in an academic setting. Thank you OCAD University for letting us celebrate with you! Welcome new students!

PHOTO ID:
For new students (or returning students who wish to update an existing card), there is no cost for your OCAD U photo ID. There is a $20 fee to replace lost cards. Government-issued photo ID required.

LOCKER RENTAL:
The cost is $20 (cash only, one locker per student) for both fall/winter semesters. Locks are supplied by Facilities Planning & Management. Students require OCAD U photo ID to rent a locker.

RAD PHOTOS:
Did you have your photo taken during Registration Assistance Days (RAD) in June?
