O-DAYS! 2018

A number of department- and group-specific #ODAYS18 activity options for you to choose from are planned the week of August 27, 2018, culminating in the Campus Life and OCAD Student Union (OCAD SU) collaborative BIG-Day! on Tuesday, September 4, when nearly 1,000 new and first-year #OCADU2022 undergrads will descend upon campus to kick off the 2017/2018 academic year! Participation is encouraged but not required.

Students are welcome to stop by on weekdays between July 9 and August 30 to get their OCAD U photo ID cards. For new students, there is no cost for the photo ID card. There is a $20 fee to replace lost cards.

A re-organization of your time, energy and resources is an important part of the transition to OCAD University. Participants should bring their course schedules and any day-timers or calendars they currently use.

This O-DAYS! activity is designed as an informal social opportunity to connect those new undergrads who may wish meet and connect with others in advance of the Labour Day weekend and BIG-Day! (Tuesday, September 4). This activity is hosted by Campus Life and Student Mentor Program and pizza* will be served. All new first-year undergrads are welcome! Special guest and inspirational speaker Andy Thibodeau will enlighten and entertain! A brief 45-minute Campus Tour will depart at 5 p.m., led by an OCAD U Peer Mentor.

COMPASS: NAVIGATING YOUR FIRST YEAR AT OCAD U (DAY 1 of 2)

COMPASS is an in-depth and interactive two-day event for new first-year students. Through short workshops, hands-on activities, games and social opportunities, we aim to help you transition to your first year at OCAD U. Sessions may cover topics such as:

what to expect at university and how to prepare
accessing available resources and support
managing your time and energy
communicating with your instructors
introduction to critique
note-taking, reading, and writing strategies
Q&A with first-year faculty and upper year students

COMPASS is open to any first-year student (to a maximum of 70 students) but may be especially helpful for students who have had a break in their schooling, who are the first in their family to attend post-secondary, or who don’t have a background in art and design education (such as through their high school).

Due to the limited number of spaces, you must be able to attend both days of COMPASS in order to register. Snacks and lunch are provided for both days.

This annual mature student-specific activity is a great opportunity for our new 25+ undergrads to mix, mingle and get acquainted with other peers. Connect with a few friendly faces before you hit the books, canvas, and/or laptops!

OCAD U staff and current mature students are welcome to attend as welcome ambassadors. Refreshments will be served.

O-DAYS! Annual Community Fair, adorning students and staff with Henna Art! Visit Sarah (first-come, first served) for a complimentary 2-minute session in natural, lavender-infused Henna!

Having completed her degree in Fine Arts, with a minor in Material Art & Design, Sarah is celebrating her 10th year as principal for Breath of Henna, implementing her roots while using Henna in a global setting and travelling for destination weddings and corporate events. Sarah also continues her thesis in Henna as she is the first artist in North America to use Henna in an academic setting. Thank you OCAD University for letting us celebrate with you! Welcome new students!

LOCKER RENTAL:

The cost is $20 (cash only, one locker per student) for both fall/winter semesters. Locks are supplied by Facilities & Studio Services. Students require an updated OCAD U photo ID to rent a locker.

NOTE:

After September 7, students who need photo ID and lockers must go to Facilities & Studio Services, Room 220, Level 2, 51 McCaul Street (MCF), 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
