Photo ID Cards: summer schedule

All students are welcome to stop by between July 2 and August 28 to get their OCAD U photo ID cards. For new students, there is no cost for your photo ID card. Government-issued photo ID required (Driver's Licences, Ontario/Provincial Photo ID card or passport)–Health Cards or high school ID cards will not he accepted. Returning students can bring in their existing card for updating if it is expired. There is a $20.00 fee to replace lost cards.

StART: SUMMER TRANSITION PROGRAM FOR
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Time: to be confirmed
Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD)
Level 6, 230 Richmond St. West (RHB)
Facilitated by Centre for Students with Disabilities

StART is a free transition program that provides new OCAD U students with disabilities an opportunity to meet other new students and focuses on assisting students in developing strategies for learning success at an art and design university.

Participants will also engage in interactive activities, such as an expression art session, a unique AGO trip guided by an OCAD U Instructor, networking visits to artist-centered organizations in the city, and more. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Register early, as spaces are limited. Please contact our office to schedule a registration appointment before Friday, August 9, 2019.

This free workshop that offers hands-on exercises that will give you the opportunity to build essential tools for success in your first year courses at OCAD U. We will look at critical reading, taking lecture notes and introduction to critique.

Join us at OCAD U’s annual International Student Welcome to learn about life in Toronto, working in Canada, health insurance and much more! Staff from the Office of International Student Support and current OCAD U international students will be there to give you advice and answer your questions. Snacks will be provided.

The same session will be held four times, but you only need to attend once. Choose the day and time you would like to attend.

A re-organization of your time, energy and resources is an important part of the transition to OCAD U. In this free workshop, we will discuss strategies and tips on how to organize your time, set realistic goals and gain insight into your personal work style. We will engage in hands-on activities that will assist you in setting priorities, developing a schedule and managing your stress for the years ahead. Participants should bring their course schedules and any day-timers or calendars they currently use.

CONNECT U Banner

This O-DAYS! activity is designed as an informal social opportunity to connect those new undergrads who may wish meet and connect with others in advance of the Labour Day weekend and BIG-Day! (Tuesday, September 4). This activity is hosted by Campus Life and Student Mentor Program and pizza* will be served. All new first-year undergrads are welcome! Special guest and inspirational speaker Andy Thibodeau will enlighten and entertain!

A brief 45-minute Campus Tour will depart at 5 p.m., led by OCAD U Peer Mentors.

*It is your responsibility to email us and notify us of any allergies or dietary restrictions so that we may do our best to accommodate you. Please do so at your earliest convenience, no later than August 25.

FREE WORKSHOP
COMPASS: NAVIGATING YOUR FIRST YEAR (DAY 1 of 2)
9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Facilitated by the Writing & Learning Centre

COMPASS is an in-depth and interactive two-day event for new first-year students. Through short workshops, hands-on activities, games and social opportunities, we aim to help you transition to your first year at OCAD U. Sessions may cover topics such as:

  • first year: what to expect
  • strategies for success
  • accessing available resources and support
  • managing your time and energy
  • communicating with your instructors
  • critique: the students’ perspective
  • note-taking, reading, and writing strategies
  • life on campus: Q&A with upper year students

COMPASS is open to any first-year student (to a maximum of 70 students) but may be especially helpful for students who have had a break in their schooling, who are the first in their family to attend post-secondary, or who don’t have a background in art and design education (such as through their high school).

Due to the limited number of spaces, you must be able to attend both days of COMPASS in order to register. Lunch is provided for both days.

In dialogue with the work in the exhibit Land-Liminality-Loss, this event acts as an invitation for all students at OCAD U who feel the challenges of displacement. This workshop will be focused on the complex narratives that surround immigration and identity. How can we contribute to establishing a safe environment for the OCAD U community? How can we find a home within ourselves and with each other?

About the Artist:
Angie Ma is a DRPT major in her fourth year at OCAD U. In her art practice, she reflects on her Chinese Canadian identity, expressing her thoughts, memories and desires through watercolour painting. She is actively pursuing art education as researcher and as educator. In her workshops, she collaborates with participants using storytelling to animate a dialogue that will connect everyone’s experiences.

PHOTO ID:
For new students (or returning students who wish to update an existing card), there is no cost for your OCAD U photo ID. There is a $20 fee to replace lost cards. LOCKER RENTAL:
The cost is $30 (cash only, one locker per student) for both fall/winter terms. Locks are supplied. Students require a valid OCAD U photo ID card to rent a locker.

NOTE:
After September 6, students who need photo ID and lockers must go to Facilities & Studio Services, Level 2, 51 McCaul Street, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
