Journals and Magazines

The Library’s journal and magazine collection includes both print and digital formats with the majority of titles accessible online through various library databases.   Magazine and journal titles held within the Library’s print collection are predominately visual art, architecture and design titles; whereas, tens of thousands of e-journals in subject areas spanning the social sciences and humanities, as well as the sciences are available online through library subscribed databases.

Both print and e-journal titles may be searched using the Journal A – Z list.  The Journal A – Z list is used primary to find out more information about titles (e.g. library holdings, peer review status, publication history, permissible uses under licence) or to locate a specific article within a journal from a citation (i.e. a “known item search”).  E-journal articles from many of the journal and magazine titles the library subscribes to can be searched and retrieved using Summon, which indexes this content from the library’s catalogue and databases.

The library provides access to dozens of subscription databases which are accessible to Faculty, students and staff both on, and off-campus.   Library “Databases” refers to wide range of online research materials and tools that include subject specific indexes/search engines, e-journals, ebooks, online reference, streaming video and more. While most of these resources are discoverable within Summon, not all are indexed within the system and therefore more comprehensive or focused research should be performed by accessing individual databases using the Databases A – Z List.
