Born in Toronto and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, Anita Kunz is one of Canada’s most acclaimed illustrators. Influenced by her uncle, illustrator Robert Kunz, she developed an approach rooted in making ideas accessible, with a particular interest in social and political issues.

A graduate of Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University), Kunz’s work has been widely published, nationally and internationally. Her socially and politically themed illustrations have been featured in *TIME*, *Rolling Stone*, *Vanity Fair*, *The New Yorker*, *The New York Times*, *Newsweek*, *GQ* and *Sports Illustrated*, among many others. From 1988 to 1990, she was one of two artists commissioned by *Rolling Stone* to create a monthly illustrated History of Rock ’n’ Roll endpaper.

She has illustrated more than 50 book covers and created posters for organizations including the Canadian Opera Company and the Toronto International Film Festival. Her paintings and sculptures have been exhibited internationally, including at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts, the Museum of American Illustration in New York and the Teatrio Cultural Association in Rome, Italy.

Her works are in the permanent collections at the Library of Congress, the Canadian Archives in Ottawa, the McCord Museum in Montreal, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, and two of her *TIME* cover paintings are in the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Kunz was honoured with a solo exhibition at the U.S. Library of Congress in 2003, becoming the first Canadian to receive the distinction. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2009, inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 2017 and honoured by Canada Post with a commemorative stamp in 2018.
