OCAD U Honours Pride 2016!

Pride 2016

Canada’s first-ever Pride Month will launch on June 1, 2016, featuring extended programming and provocative events throughout the city of Toronto, culminating with the 10-day Pride Toronto festival, June 24 to July 3. OCAD University is following suit with month-long programming open to all members of the OCAD U community and the public!

Public Art Exhibition: Objects For Listening
Chicago-based Visual Artist Cheryl Pope & OCAD U Student Exhibition

Works created in collaboration with: Paula Burrows, Tyla Crowhurst-Smith, Atticus Edwards, Anam Feerasta, Rita Camacho Lomeli, Lizz Khan, Tori Maas, Khadijah Morley, Sophie Paas-Lang, Tak Pham, Debora Puricelli, Amanda Robertson-Hébert, Claudio S. Santander and Mary Tremonte. Curated by Lisa Deanne Smith

OCAD University and Onsite Gallery welcomes Chicago-based designer and artist, Cheryl Pope. The new site-specific work in this exhibition was developed through workshops with OCAD U students and the local community, creating objects for listening.

Alongside Cheryl Pope’s work is an OCAD U Student Exhibition to unite and empower our students in their diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. Curated by Wrik Mead

OCAD U at the Pride Street Fair

Situated within the Church-Wellesley corridor over Pride weekend, OCAD U will host a student-led public art installation where visitors are invited to reflect and celebrate those who have paved the way for the LGBTQ+ community.  Featuring interactive sculptures by Student Gallery.

Pride 2016 – Multi-University #Displayyourpride Initiative
 
Calling all faculty offices and administrative units!  OCAD University is teaming up with Ryerson, York and the University of Toronto for a #Displayyourpride event celebrating Pride Month 2016.
 
What is it?

Decorate your office and/or workstation for Pride Month! This is a fun way to showcase community spirit, build visibility leading up to Pride and highlight OCAD U creativity and imagination alongside participating Universities!  

Show how OCAD U creates welcoming spaces for queer and trans communities. Showcase art & design work, literature, or resources honouring LGBTQ+ communities. Whether it’s with traditional rainbows and banners, or you have your own unique way of subverting the pride aesthetic with something more radical – it’s all welcome! 

On June 23rd, 2016 share your images on social media using the hashtag #displayyourpride 

How do we participate?

Participating is easy! 

Activate your office spaces! – hire a student, work with your colleagues, or create something independently for your workstation! 
AND
Post images on social media using the hashtag #displayyourpride leading up to and especially on June 23, 2016
 
Who should get involved?

All faculty offices, student services spaces, administrative units and individual workstations are welcome to participate!
