Winter term classes start Jan. 11, 2021

Dear members of the OCAD University community,

As we near completion of the Fall 2020 term, we have been working to reimagine our courses for online delivery for the Winter 2021 term. I want to thank all of our faculty members for their ongoing commitment and hard work in making the transition to remote delivery and thank our students who have been learning online.

Our collective goal is to ensure that we work together to continue to offer our students engaging learning experiences while at the same time supporting the mental health and wellness of all the members of our community.

That is why the University has decided to extend the holiday break and adjust the start date of the Winter 2021 term. This will give everyone a longer holiday break to support their wellness and provide faculty with more preparatory time for their winter courses.

Holiday break extended

  • The University will be closed from Thursday, December 24 to Tuesday, January 5, inclusive.

  • Our offices and services will re-open (virtually) on Wednesday, January 6.

Winter 2021 Term

  • Classes will begin on Monday, January 11 instead of Friday, January 8.

  • Friday classes originally scheduled to begin on January 8 will begin on Friday, January 15.

  • The term will end on Monday, April 26, 2021, as originally planned.

I would like to thank everyone for their incredible efforts to deliver academic programs and services during this very challenging time, and for supporting our students in succeeding in their studies. More details about the Winter 2021 term will be shared with the community later this week.

In the meantime, I hope you are all keeping healthy and safe, especially given the news that Toronto is now in a second lockdown as of yesterday. Given this development, the University continues to monitor the evolving situation, and will extend its pause on access to facilities for non-essential services for another week, including the Service Depot, Great (Study) Hall and Library curbside pickup and drop-off. We’ll share more information with people soon.

Kind regards,

Ana Serrano
