Recipient of 2019 Nuit Blanche Independent Project Career Launcher Announced

Nuit Blanche Toronto and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce Crutch CAC as the recipient of the 2019 Independent Project Career Launcher. Co-founded by OCADU graduate Veronika Ivanova (CRCP 2018), Crutch CAC will present An Infinite Loop in the Virtual Plaza - an architectural installation and durational video work by Sophia Oppel. Audiences will be immersed into a landscape that blurs the boundaries between the digital and the embodied. The work will be shown on Oct 5 for Nuit Blanche 2019 at Crutch CAC, located at Unit G of 13 Mansfield Ave (In the laneway behind Mansfield Avenue).

Crutch CAC organizes seven exhibition projects annually in conjunction with 14 smaller public programs (panels, performances, film and video screenings, literary events, and live music events.)

Sophia Oppel’s work addresses the power embedded in digital networks, and their manifestations in real-life experiences. Oppel’s art is based in digital media and interactive installations. She uses algorithms, web applications and software presets as subject matter, and tries to examine the assumptions imposed on users of these tools.

As part of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, the Career Development office supports the professional development of emerging OCAD U creative talent. The Career Launchers program offers unique, high-profile opportunities developed in partnership with industry leaders in order to help senior students and new graduates start their professional practice after school.
