OCAD University reports its first positive COVID-19 case on campus

OCAD University informs our community that nearly 14 months into the pandemic, we are now reporting our first positive case on campus.

On Monday, April 26, 2021, an individual reported to OCAD University that a member of their family tested positive for COVID-19. The community member was last on campus on Friday, April 23, 2021. They received a positive test result themselves on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. This individual is now self-isolating at home.

Contact tracing established that this individual was in close contact on the campus with one other individual, who has been contacted, and is now also self-isolating at home for 14 days.

As per Toronto Public Health Guidelines, both individuals will require a test with a negative result at the end of their self-isolation period and be symptom-free before returning to the campus.

New positive case tracking information on our website
Going forward, all positive case tracking information will be shared via Positive Case Updates on our Coronavirus web page. Please review this page for current case information.

What to do if you have been on the campus and have tested positive
As a reminder, community members who were in any OCAD University facilities, and subsequently test positive for COVID-19 are asked to advise the University by emailing ehs@ocadu.ca. This information will be kept confidential and will assist the University in working with Toronto Public Health in tracing the risk of transmission within our community.

Thank you for your ongoing support
That we are experiencing only our first case on the campus now, with a very limited exposure to others, is a testament to the strong public health and safety protocols in place for all who access the campus, and to the safety-consciousness of our community member, who self-reported. We thank the OCAD U community for your continued efforts in working together to keep everyone in our community healthy and safe.
