OCAD University Chancellor Salah Bachir named to Order of Ontario

OCAD University congratulates Chancellor Salah Bachir for his appointment to the Order of Ontario – the province’s highest honour.

Recognition of Chancellor Bachir’s achievements were made public today in a news release that named the 21 individuals whose excellence has left a lasting legacy in the province, Canada and beyond.

“We are delighted that Chancellor Bachir’s exceptional leadership and achievements have been recognized by the province of Ontario,” said Dr. Sara Diamond, President and Vice-Chancellor, OCAD University. “We extend our warmest congratulations to Salah on his appointment to the Order of Ontario.”

A successful entrepreneur, Chancellor Bachir is currently president of Cineplex Media. OCAD U’s fourth Chancellor, he is a patron of the arts and has supported numerous cultural events, organizations and programs

Chancellor Bachir is a champion of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community and has devoted his support to another signature issue – health care.

He has raised millions of dollars for hospitals in Toronto and has been recognized for his work on behalf of local and international charities.

The Lieutenant Governor will bestow the honour upon the newest appointees during an investiture ceremony at Queen's Park on March 11, 2020.
