OCAD U International is excited to announce the launch of International Online Residency Experiences (IORE). This IORE model is faculty-led and engages students in producing collaborative work with peers from one or multiple partner institutions. Each residency aims to create a professional opportunity for participants in each of the global locations, this includes culminating public showcases, and presenting works to online speaker panels.
So far our online residencies, and workshops have been in partnership with ENSCI Les-Ateliers(France), Mapúa University (Philippines), Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Colombia) and University of the Arts London (UK). Our IORE programs were made possible through the 'Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program: Innovation Fund' from Universities Canada.
By being able to offer these programs during the pandemic, we were able to keep students informed and aware of the institutions’ growing international offerings as well as maintain momentum around creating awareness of the value of global mindedness in creative professional practice.
The IORE model was envisioned as both a potential lead-up to physical mobility, as well as its own stand-alone global experience for students unable to travel, helping us address some barriers to participation we commonly face with international programs. Moving forward, some IORE programs will continue as co-curricular initiatives, with others transforming into for-credit COIL initiatives with the same partners.
