Congratulations to OCAD U Illustration graduate Varvara Nedilska on winning the Best of Student Award and Student Purchase Award at this year’s Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF). Varvara, along with nine other graduating OCAD U students, were recipients of the Centre for Emerging Artist & Designer’s TOAF Career Launcher opportunity.
Since 1961, TOAF has been happening every second weekend in July. This year, the works and artists exhibiting at the fair were available to view and purchase online from July 2 to 12. During the last weekend of the fair, a panel of judges distributed 17 awards among the exhibiting artists. Members of the OCAD U Community who also received awards include:
- Keight MacLean (Illustration, 16’) Best of Painting Award
- Erin McCluskey (Illustration 17’) Honourable Mention – Painting
- Charlize Nhung Nguyen (Material art & Design, 18’) Artscape Emerging Artist Award
- Dana Korre (Drawing and Painting 16’) Most Innovative Use of Material Award
As part of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, the Career Development office supports the professional development of emerging OCAD U creative talent. The Career Launchers program offers unique, high-profile opportunities developed in partnership with industry leaders in order to help senior students and new graduates start their professional practice after school.
