Exhibition by Lisa Myers (Masters of Fine Art in Criticism & Curatorial Practice Student)

October 14 to 17, 2009

In addition to writing critical analyses, Lisa Myers used sculpture/installation, video and audio in her investigation of the relationship between food, identity and memory. And, naturally, she cooks! For the October 2009 exhibition Verge at OCAD University’s Graduate Gallery, Myers prepared a buffet of food entitled Food Matters, inspired by "a mixture of geography and people." Specifically, the ingredients and preparation style of Myers’s culinary spread reflected her recent change of location from Port Severn, Ontario to the heart of downtown Toronto.

The exhibition setting is one area that Myers is particularly interested in exploring further. Says Myers, "Although food is a necessity of life, affluent societies have the luxury of looking at food as an art form, and using it as media for art-making."
