Work & Workshops by first-year MFA in Criticism & Curatorial Practice student Zach Pearl
March 3 to 6, 2011
Part exhibition, part workshop, and part community art project, Zach Pearl's series of pattern-heavy mixed media works explored the claustrophobia of our overbooked and over-committed lives. Visitors were invited to not only take-in these artworks, but also to respond and add to the series.
Offering an ongoing mini-workshop in collage and stenciling techniques on the night of the reception, Pearl provided his guests with a base layer and all materials necessary to collaborate with him on a mural-sized work in the gallery space. Looking to engage with and add other voices to his work, Pearl hoped that the collaborative process would not only give visitors a new kind of gallery/exhibition experience but also encourage them to use art as way to foster dialogue and community in their daily lives.
