Students today are writing online for many different purposes. This workshop will go over the kinds of writing you will be doing for your assignments and exams, as well coursework related communications. You will gain approaches for writing for different audiences, editing and making the most the most of online writing tools.

Mini-Series Description:

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, OCAD University has shifted how its classes are taught and formatted. Most of the Fall 2020 classes will be offered remotely (online). Online Learning for Fall 2020 will mean getting to know new environments for communicating in your classes and with the community at OCAD U.

These short (1.5 hour) workshops, followed by a question and answer chat, will demonstrate ways of connecting and interacting with faculty, staff and classmates using Teams and online platforms, like Canvas. This mini-series goes beyond the technical know-how of online learning tools and shares how to become more confident and comfortable with online interactions. Facilitated by Phoebe Wang, ELL Writing & Learning Consultant. All English Language Learners welcome. Workshops can be completed individually and in any order.

Each 1.5 hr workshop will consist of a 1 hour presentation accompanied by a 30 min Q&A session.

Each workshop will:
  • Share online reading and writing assignments tips and strategies
  • Show how to find and create a supportive community at OCAD U
  • Address the “unspoken” skills of building relationships and participating respectfully in a Canadian university
