DIY LOVE: Queer Knowledge & History Then, Now, and Forever
Main Lobby, 100 McCaul St.

Created by Kaythi, Seiji, Will Carpenter, Natalie Mark, John Wigle, Maya Wilson-Sanchez, and Lex B, DIY LOVE was created to exhibit and celebrate LGBTQ2S+ activism, knowledge, history, experiences, and bodies.

In partnership with Recruitment and Admissions and OCADSU’s Xpace Cultural Centre, the Office of Diversity, Equity & Sustainability Initiatives (ODESI) supported students to create a public art installation and community engagement initiative at the 2017 Pride Toronto Street Fair. The DIY Love Installation featured a wheat-pasting workshop in celebration of LGBTQ2S+ activist knowledge and sought to involve BIPOC, transgender, and disability activism in Pride celebrations and to highlight the LGBTQ2S+ community’s collective endurance and resilience, its diversity of life experience, and revitalizing role as creators and listeners!

Drop by the Office of Diversity, Equity & Sustainability Initiatives (ODESI) to pick up your own copy of a poster! Located on the ODESI table at 230 Richmond St. W., Level 6. Learn more about the project and the artists: https://diylove2017.tumblr.com/

Handbook: Supporting Queer and Trans Students in Art and Design Education
In March 2018, OCAD U’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Sustainability Initiatives (ODESI) released Handbook: Supporting Queer and Trans Students in Art and Design Education. The guide draws from anti-oppressive education models to enable educators to unlearn and critically address oppression on the basis of race, gender and sexuality, and transform their understanding of how to support queer and transgender students in the studio, classroom, and beyond. Handbookwas created by the Queer Publishing Project, an active research group of over 100 students, former students, alumni, staff and faculty at OCAD U. ODESI provided mentoring and project support to produce the publication, alongside faculty member Anthea Black and printmaking technician Nick Schick. Copies of the Handbook are available through faculty offices and OCADSU.
