Emergence from Emergency - Black Realities: OCAD U Creative Writing at stackt Market

Emergence from Emergency, a message created by students on OCAD University's Creative Writing Program for display on traffic message board at Toronto's stackt Market

Emergence from Emergency – Black Realities

Black Lives Matter Installation at stackt Market, 28 Bathurst Street, Toronto

The OCAD U Creative Writing Program, stackt, So Good City and Stinson Owl-Lite present “Emergence from Emergency,” a series of poetic installations tackling today's most pressing issues. The first phase of this collaboration, called Black Realities, is an interactive journey of storytelling, vulnerability and truths around the black experience.

A number of black students from OCAD University have created a series of poetic-artistic works, transplanted in various spaces around the stackt Market.

Featured as part of the venture is a 7-foot tall traffic message board showcasing words and phrases addressing the black experience. Phrases like "Black Joy, Radiance, Forever," and "His Last Breath, Also Mine," can be seen from a distance 24/7.  The project is curated by Creative Writing Chair Catherine Black and instructor Ian Keteku. The participating student-artists are: Jennifer Kasiama, Leaf Watson, Meighan Morson, Ehiko Odeh, Chris Markland.

Stay tuned for more developments in the ongoing project “Emergence from Emergency.”     #emergencefromemergency
