ABOUT THE AUTHORS
R. Roger Remington is the Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design Emeritus and former Director of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York. As a teacher/scholar his critical interests are in graphic design history, research, and writing. His deep commitment to design history and preservation has led him to bring the archives of designers of the American Modernist generation to RIT and, more recently, in 2010, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, which houses the career archive of Massimo and Lella Vignelli, among other notable designers. He has written four books on designers and design history.
Sheila Pontis, PhD is an information design researcher, educator and practitioner working at the intersection of information design, cognitive science, and field research. Her work and research explore sensemaking and visualization, and investigate how people interact with information. She has extensive experience in higher education, having taught in Argentina, Spain, the UK, and the U.S. After five years teaching information design, design thinking, and creativity at Princeton University, she is currently teaching in the Integrated Design + Management graduate program at MIT. She is also a partner at Sense Information Design, a New York-area design consultancy. Her previous book, Making Sense of Field Research: A Practical Guide for Information Designers, was published by Routledge in 2018.
ABOUT THE HOST
Isabel Meirelles is an information designer and a Professor in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, Toronto, where she teaches in the Graphic Design Program and in Graduate Studies. In addition to writing widely on the role of data visualization in society, culture, and education, she has organized numerous conferences and exhibitions on the topic, such as Information+ conferences and The Art of Networks exhibits. Meirelles is the author of Design for Information: An introduction to the Histories, Theories, and Best Practices Behind Effective Information Visualizations (Rockport, 2013).
