OCAD University’s Strategic Directions 2017–2022 is guided by the University’s new vision and mission statements and recent planning documents. It is meant to be a short, focused document that synthesizes these other planning documents. It summarizes the University’s strategic directions over the next five years. It assists us in communicating with the world outside of OCAD University and in establishing scorecards. It underscores the enablers that we will use to be successful in implementing our plans.
We have discussed the strategic directions process at town halls this year, and we want to meet with you to get your feedback and input on the draft OCAD University’s Strategic Directions 2017-2022.
We have scheduled a series of consultation sessions (see details below) or you can provide your feedback online through the feedback box on this webpage.

Once all your feedback has been gathered, it will be reviewed, considered and incorporated as appropriate into a final revised version of the OCAD University’s Strategic Directions 2017–2022. The final document will be presented for information at Senate at the end of November 2017 and for approval by the Board of Governors in December 2017.
The process to create OCAD University’s Strategic Directions 2017–2022 started n 2015 when OCAD University embarked on an in-depth method to reimagine our institution’s vision and mission for the future. After extensive consultations with the OCAD U community, new vision and new mission statements were identified and approved by the Board of Governors at the end of 2016.
Within a similar timeframe — and guided by the emerging vision and mission statements — the University held consultations with the OCAD U community to develop our Academic Plan 2017–2022: Transforming Student Experience, which was approved by Senate in January 2017. We worked with the governing bodies of the University (the Board of Governors and the Senate) as well as many members of OCAD U’s diverse community to discuss contents of other key planning documents. These combine to guide the University into the future and include: Strategic Mandate Agreement 2017–2020 (finalized and approved with the Ministry of Advanced Educations and Skills Development in October 2017); Strategic Research Plan 2018–2023 (slated for Senate approval in November 2017 and presentation to the Board of Governors for information in December 2017); and the Capital Strategy Review and Discussion Paper (March 2017).
The priorities that OCAD U have identified while developing the above have been synthesized under one umbrella: OCAD University’s Strategic Directions 2017–2022 that provides the strategic directions for the University over the next five years.
