The Tutoring Program at the Writing & Learning Centre offers students one-on-one help from trained and experienced tutors.  We offer one 45 minute in-person tutoring session per student per week and for quick questions, drop-in sessions are available on a daily basis.

SKYPE™ Appointments
Some 45 minute one-on-one SKYPE™ appointments are available for off-campus students. Please contact us for details.

Studio Visits
We also offer 40 minute in-Studio visits for third- and fourth-year students. Please contact us for details.

ESL Tutoring
If you are a non-native speaker of English, you can ask for an appointment with a tutor trained in teaching English as a Second Language. You can also sign up for a three-session Mini-series on Editing for Grammar or Vocabulary Building for Writing. For details, please see our ESL Resources page.

Thesis Tutoring
Are you working on your final thesis paper but don’t know where to start? Do you need help with your research and organizing your ideas? Are annotated bibliographies and proper citation methods confusing? Not sure what to do?

Come to the WLC and we will work with you to help answer these questions, or any others you may have. Let us know you are looking for thesis support and we will assign you to one of our tutors who specialize in senior undergrad/graduate support.

Cancelling Appointments
Please feel free to call or drop by to cancel or reschedule your appointment. A minimum of 24 hours advance notice allows us to make your cancelled appointment available to another student who needs it. Late cancellations and no-shows can result in the suspension of appointment-booking privileges.

Q. What can I expect from tutoring services?
A. Students can expect informed peer tutors, generous and thoughtful support, expert writing and learning counselling — but no miracles, not a perfect grade, and not an editing/proofreading service. Writing and learning skills development takes time, planning and commitment on the part of both the student and the tutor.

Q. What kind of feedback will I get on my writing?
A. All writers need feedback on their writing. Many students find it helpful to ask a friend to edit their assignments. However, writing tutors have special training and experience and often they're the best people to help you express your ideas in writing. Tutors can help you clarify your ideas, focus your writing and solve common problems such as plagiarism.
