WORK STUDY
The University offers many on-campus employment opportunities through the Ontario Work Study and Institutional Work Study Plans. OCADU students registered in the degree or diploma program who are Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Persons with demonstrated financial need are eligible to apply for positions created through these programs. Available positions will be posted on the electronic Job Board. Work Study applications should be submitted directly to the on-campus employer identified in the job posting.
Ontario Work Study Plan
Program Objective: The objective of the Ontario Work Study Plan (OWSP) is to help students in financial need to meet their educational costs by working part-time during the study year. OWSP is funded by the province of Ontario and is one of the components of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). The plan is jointly administered by the Student Support Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and OCADU. Student jobs are funded on a cost-sharing basis; the ministry provides 75% of the funds and OCADU provides the remaining 25%. A portion of the assistance provided is targeted towards groups under-represented in the post-secondary education system. OWSP runs from September 6, 2011 through to April 20, 2012.
Student Eligibility: Students may apply for an OWSP job if they:
- are Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Persons
- are Ontario residents
- are registered in full-time studies (60% or 1.5 credits; 40% or 1.0 for students with permanent disabilities) in the 2011/12 fall/winter session
- maintain satisfactory academic progress
- have applied for and are eligible for financial assistance under the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for the 2011/12 fall/winter semester
- demonstrate financial need
Maximum Award: Students may receive up to $2000 during the fall/winter session. At the current monitor rate of $11.28 per hour (which is the base rate of $10.25 plus 4% vacation pay and 6% in lieu of benefits), a student can work a maximum of 177 hours through the OWSP program. NOTE: this is a per person maximum, not a per position maximum.

Institutional Work Study Plan
Program Objective: The objective of the Institutional Work Study Plan (IWSP) is to help students in financial need to meet their educational costs by working part-time during the study year. IWSPis funded through a portion of the Ontario Trust for Student Support. The plan is administered by OCADU as per guidelines established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Student jobs are funded on a cost-sharing basis; the IWSP provides 75% of the funds and OCADU departments provide the remaining 25%. IWSP runs from September 6, 2011 through to April 20, 2012.
Student Eligibility: Students may apply for an IWSP job if they:
- are Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Persons
- are Ontario residents
- are registered in full- or part-time studies during the 2011/2012 fall/winter semester
- demonstrate financial need
Maximum Award: There is no maximum award, although departments may not exceed the total number of hours allocated to the position.
Student Wage: The current monitor rate is $11.28 per hour (which is the base rate of $10.25 plus 4% vacation pay and 6% in lieu of benefits).
