Governor General’s Academic Medals
The Governor General’s Academic Medals are awarded annually to a graduate student and an undergraduate student who achieve the highest academic standing upon graduation from a master's degree program (Gold Medal) and a bachelor degree program (Silver Medal). The medals are awarded at the Spring Graduation Ceremony on behalf, and in the name of, the Governor General. No application is required.

OnlineColleges.org Scholarship for Single Parents
A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded starting January 1st, 2012 to a single parent who is enrolled in an accredited online post-secondary institution. The scholarship will help pay for non-tuition related living expenses for the 2012 academic year that are not covered by the recipient’s current financial aid.  For more information and the application, visit www.onlinecolleges.org/scholarship.  The deadline to apply is November 1, 2011.

3M National Fellowships
The 3M National Student Fellowships will honour up to ten full-time, college and undergraduate university students who have demonstrated qualities of outstanding leadership and who embrace a vision where the quality of their educational experience can be enhanced in academia and beyond.  The award is valued at $5000.  For more information on how to apply, visit the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.  The deadline to apply is January 7, 2012.

Canadian Youth Environmental Leadership Scholarship
The scholarship - worth $5,000 - will contribute to the advancement of new ideas and new ways of thinking when it comes to protecting the environment by supporting students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and the environment.  It will be awarded to two Canadian students who are currently in their second or third year of an undergraduate program, who best combine aademic achievement and public environmental services.  For more information, visit the Delphi website.  The deadline to apply is January 31, 2012.

Virginia J. Watt Award
Established in 1995, the Virginia J. Watt award was developed to encourage Inuit to pursue studies in Inuit art and culture. To qualify for the award the applicant must be a Canadian Inuk who is currently enrolled in post-secondary studies at a recognized institution whose studies are pursuing Inuit art and/or cultural studies. For 2012, the award is valued at $2000.  For more information and the application, visit the Inuit Art Foundation.  Applications must be post-marked not later than February 1, 2012.

JLF Scholarship
Established in 2007 to honour the creative legacy and spirit of the late James Lee, the JLF Scholarship is open to emerging non-professional creative talent from across Canada looking to enter the advertising industry. A scholarship of up to $5,000 will be awarded on the basis of the portfolio that demonstrates the most original thinking and craftsmanship according to a judging panel made up of a representative from each of the active founding member agencies and James Lee's family.  Fittingly, all fields relating to the advertising industry will be considered for the award including writers, art directors, film makers, recording artists, illustrators, photographers and digital artists.   Portfolio submissions will be accepted online from August 1 through September 15, 2011.  For complete information on the James Lee Foundation Scholarship and how to enter, please visit the James Lee Foundation website at http://jamesleefoundation.com.

Proyecto Vision List of Scholarships Programs for Students with Disabilities

Proyecto Vision lists 26 different scholarships for students with disabilities, including scholarships for blind students, students with learning disabilities, students with hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, asthma, autism, dwarfism, mobility impairments and many other types of disability. Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards
Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to those currently working towards a first university degree or diploma in a Canadian post-secondary institution. Award recipients must meet the following criteria: involvement in voluntary humanitarian work; Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; undergraduates working towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution in Canada; maintain a satisfactory academic standing and continued involvement in voluntary humanitarian and community work. The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each. For more information and the application process, visit Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards Program. The deadline to apply is February 1 of every year.

Youth Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities
The Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work offers six scholarships valued at $2,500 each to assist students with disabilities in pursuit for post-secondary education and training. For more information on the criteria/eligibility, visit the CCRW website. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2011.

New Commonwealth Scholarships

Scholarships available for study in Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, the South Pacific and Tanzania. Applications are open to citizens of any Commonwealth country except those from the same country as the award. Please note one award is available for each country. For more information and the application, visit the CBIE website. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2011.

CLWD Educational Bursary 2011-12

Community Living Walkerton & District is an organization that endeavors to promote effective practices of inclusion for all people. An educational bursary of $1,000 will be made available to a full-time post-secondary student who demonstrates commitment toward stronger and inclusive communities. Eligible applicants will reside in Bruce County or Grey County in Ontario, Canada (it is understood that they may live elsewhere to attend school); be accepted to study full-time at a recognized Canadian institution in a post-secondary program; submit to the Selections Committee a 500-word essay to demonstrate their personal and/or professional experiences and challenges in promoting inclusion for persons with disabilities; and include in the essay an indication of their commitment to being a builder of stronger communities and good citizenship. Applications are due May 31, 2011 and are available on the CLWD website.
