Automatic Bursary Programs (OSAF and OTSS)
OCAD Student Assistance Fund (OSAF) Bursary Program: The OSAF Bursary Program is established on a yearly basis through tuition revenues. Bursaries through this program range in value from $500 to $2,500. Approximately 500 students are assisted annually.
Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) Bursary Program: The OTSS Bursary Program is generated through donations by individuals and corporations with matching funds from the Government of Ontario to an endowed bursary fund. Approximately $75,000 is available in 2011/2012, with bursaries ranging in value from $250 to $4000.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to be automatically considered for a bursary through either of these programs:
- Be studying on a full-time basis in one or two semesters at OCAD during the 2011/2012 academic year in an undergraduate or graduate program that is approved for OSAP
- Be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Be an Ontario resident as defined by OSAP
- Demonstrate financial need through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for the 2011/2012 academic year.
No application is required. Students who apply for OSAP by Thursday, October 6, 2011 will automatically be considered. Recipients and bursary amounts will be identified through information provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in order to deliver OCAD’s commitment to Ontario's Student Access Guarantee, which states that students with financial need will have enough funding to meet the direct educational costs (tuition, books and other mandatory fees) of attending university.
Results of automatic bursaries issued through these programs will be emailed to students by Friday, December 2, 2011. Only students who have been selected to receive a bursary will be contacted.
Ontario First Generation Bursary Program
OCAD is pleased to announce that the Government of Ontario has allocated funding to create a bursary fund for First Generation Students through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities’ Access and Opportunities Strategy. This bursary opportunity will provide direct support to students with financial need who are the first in their families to attend college or university. Each bursary is given as a tuition credit. A limited number of bursaries are available. The exact amount available in 2011/2012 will be confirmed.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply for a bursary through this program:
- Be studying on a full-time basis at OCAD during the 2011/2012 academic year
- Be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Be an Ontario resident as defined by OSAP
- Demonstrate financial need of at least $2,500 (or the amount of the award) through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for the 2011/2012 academic year
- Be a student whose parents do not have a university education
The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 27, 2011, 4 p.m. Results will be sent in mid-November.

OTSS Graduate Studies Bursary Program
The OTSS Graduate Studies Bursary Program is established on a yearly basis with revenue generated from donations and endowments to the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). Approximately 5-10 bursaries are available.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply for a bursary through this program:
- Be studying on a full-time basis at OCAD in one or two semesters during the 2011/2012 academic year in one of the following graduate programs: the Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media & Design; the MFA in Criticism & Curatorial Practice; the MDes in Strategic Foresight & Innovation; or the MA in Contemporary Art History
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Be an Ontario resident
- Demonstrate financial need (priority is given to OSAP students; non-OSAP students will ONLY be considered if funds are available)

Special consideration for targeted awards may be given to students with permanent disabilities and students of Aboriginal descent

Renewable Bursary Programs
Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) Academic Bursary Program
The Academic Bursary Program is established on a yearly basis with revenue generated from donations and endowments to the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) Bursary Program. An academic bursary is a non-repayable award given on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Each OTSS Academic Bursary is as a tuition credit in two installments. One or two bursaries valued up to $5000 are available and may be renewable.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply for a bursary through this program:
- Be studying on a full-time basis at OCAD during the 2011/2012 academic year
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Be an Ontario resident as defined by OSAP
- Have applied for and be eligible to receive at least $5000 of assistance through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for the 2011/2012 academic year
- Have a high portfolio score (newly admitted students) Note: we collect this information on your behalf from the Admissions office
- Have a minimum overall accumulated average of 70% at OCAD (new upper year undergraduate students and for renewals)

OCAD Student Assistance Fund (OSAF) Access Bursary Program
The Access Bursary Program is designed to assist students who face extreme financial hardship in attending post-secondary and have been involved with community-based programs which have supported them in their efforts to reach postsecondary. Access bursaries vary in amount and may be renewable for a maximum of 4 years, based on individual circumstances. Bursaries are paid in two equal installments (one payment per semester), and are generally given as tuition credits. The Access Bursary Program is established through tuition revenues (OCAD Student Assistance Fund (OSAF) Bursary Program).
Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply for a bursary through this program:
- Be studying on a full-time or part-time basis at OCAD during the 2011/2012 academic year
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Be an Ontario resident
- Demonstrate financial need of at least $4,000 through the OSAP program
- Be an active participant in an outreach program at a community-based organization which supports individuals from non-traditional backgrounds in attaining post-secondary AND with whom OCAD has a partnership. Current partnerships exist with: Sketch, Scadding Court and YMCA Community Access Partnership.
Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Kelly Dickinson, Manager, Financial Aid & Awards to discuss eligibility and the application process. As part of the application process, students will be asked to obtain a supporting recommendation from the community-based organization with which they have been affiliated.
