COUNSELLING

The CSD offers a range of counselling supports for OCAD University students registered with the CSD on a wide range of topics including anxiety (academic or personal), stress management, symptom management, academic crisis support. The CSD can also arranges for external referal when students require specific or intensive supports.

One on One Counselling

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety Group
In this group you will learn how to recognize your automatic thoughts that lead to a feeling of anxiety and poor coping behaviours.  We will learn how to challenge these thoughts and prevent ourselves from falling into patterns of distorted thinking.  To register for the group please contact Sabrina Lindo (slindo@ocad.ca or 416-977-6000 Ext. 339).

Exam Stress Management Workshop
Exams can be very stressful.  In this workshop you will learn how to recognize your signs of stress, how to effectively manage stress so you can focus on the work at hand.  To register for the group please contact Sabrina Lindo (slindo@ocad.ca or 416-977-6000 Ext. 339).

Getting Going: Managing Procrastination Workshop
This workshop is for anyone who feels "stuck" and feels a lack of motivation or an inability to get started on things.  You will learn how to create goals, manage your time, and tap into motivation.  To register for the group please contact Sabrina Lindo (slindo@ocad.ca or 416-977-6000 Ext. 339).

Specialized Services

Learning Strategists
Learning Strategists help students learn meta-strategies that assess how they learn, as well as “big picture” planning in a range of academic and life skills areas. They also help students learn computer and other technological tools that assist their ability to learn. All services of the CSD are designed to develop self-reliance and independence in students so that they can meet their goals at OCAD and beyond. Students are provided with counselling, advice, referrals and case management by CSD’s professional staff.

Adaptive Technologists
Adapitve Technologist helps students learn to use technology to cope with the barriers posed by their disability. The tools they use can include screen readers (Kurzweil 3000 and TextHelp), Time management tools including PDA's, and voice dictation programs (Dragon NaturallySpeaking or MacSpeech) all with the goal of increasing students independence and academic success.
