Register early
Students must be registered with the CSD to receive accommodations and related support. It is important to register early in the semester to ensure the accommodations can be scheduled by the start of the semester.
Make an appointment
Contact the CSD and make an intake appointment to meet with the Disability Counsellor. We will explain what we do and how we can support you.
Bring documentation
All students registered with the CSD must provide documentation of their disability. If you already have documentation, please bring it to your first appointment or fax it to 647-438-9731. If you do not have medical documentation, we can assist you in obtaining it and provide you with interim bridging accommodations.
Check-in regularly
Students registered with the CSD must check in each semester. Accommodations are renewed each semester by making an appointment and meeting with CSD staff.

As a student, you have a responsibility to:
- Advise the CSD of your need for accommodation related to a disability
- Make your needs known to the best of your ability, so that the CSD can address the requested accommodation
- Answer questions or provide information regarding relevant restrictions or limitations, including information from health care professionals, where appropriate and as needed
- Participate in discussions with CSD staff and/or faculty regarding possible accommodation solutions
- Cooperate with any other professionals whose assistance is required
- Fulfill agreed upon responsibilities, as set out in your accommodation plan
- Work with the CSD on an ongoing basis to manage the accommodation process
- Advise the CSD of difficulties you may be experiencing in accessing educational life, including problems with arranged accommodations
- Make an appointment with CSD staff and be prepared to wait for an appointment if you drop in
- Head off issues as far in advance as possible and do not leave issues until the last day of classes or the end of terms
The Centre for Students with Disabilities has a responsibility to:
- Advise students, or their parent(s)/guardian(s), of available accommodations and support services, and the process by which these resources may be accessed
- Take an active role in ensuring that alternative approaches and possible accommodation solutions are investigated and researched as part of the duty to accommodate
- Obtain other professional opinions or advice where needed, and manage the costs of any required disability-related information or assessment
- Maximize a student’s right to privacy and confidentiality, including only sharing information regarding the student’s disability with those directly involved in the accommodation process
- Limit requests for information to those reasonably related to the nature of the need or limitation, and only for the purpose of facilitating access to educational services
- Deal with accommodation requests in a timely manner
- Educate faculty, staff and students about disability-related issues
