Experiential Learning
At OCAD University, experiential learning is practiced and supplemented in a variety of ways. Most prominently, in the classroom and studio environment, our expert faculty lead students to engage with material experimentation, production methodologies, concept development and applied communication techniques which all tie back to learning objectives.
In the expanded context of applying their skills outside of OCAD U, our students are also encouraged to pursue opportunities which place them in "real-world" situations offered in partnership with cultural organizations, industry, community service agencies and creative producers. The Experiential Learning office within Career Development is responsible for facilitating and supporting these kinds of placements, which occur both inside and outside of curriculum. Largely, these take the form of work-integrated internships and situational learning environments.
Experiential Learning offers students a structured way to strengthen and build their discipline-specific and transferable skill sets, reflect on linkages to their curricular experiences, develop a network, work as part of a team and learn from a mentor or supervisor.
