First-year programs

We understand the challenges of transitioning into university and provide several services to support students through their first year at OCAD U.

These one-on-one consultations are tailored specifically to your needs. You can book one 45-minute appointment per week or come during our drop-in times for shorter questions and conversations. Be sure to plan ahead and book your appointment well in advance because sessions do fill up. For more information, please see our Tutoring page.

First-year Writing Workshops

If you are enrolled in VISC 1001 and VISC 1002 you’ll be asked to complete several writing assignments. If you’d like some ideas and methods for success, these workshops give you a) a brief orientation to the objectives and expectations of university writing, b) some concrete strategies to help tackle specific assignments and c) hands-on practice with writing techniques you can use throughout your studies. For a schedule, please see our Workshops page.

Study Groups

If you are taking VISC 1001 and/or VISC 1002 we invite you to participate in one of our small, informal study groups to work with your classmates to understand course concepts, review lecture notes, prepare for exams and assignments and develop study skills. There is no registration required.

If you are not in the classes mentioned above but are interested in forming your own study group, please see our pdf “Forming a Study Group.”
